GUWAHATI, Jan 18 � A media workshop on �Communicating Weather and Climate Information� was organized by the Regional Meteorological Centre, Guwahati, on Saturday.

Kanak Sen Deka, Editor-in-Chief, Dainik Agradoot was the chief guest and Prof Dulal Goswami, eminent scientist was the guest of honour of the function.

MK Gupta, Deputy Director General welcomed the media-persons and urged them to take utmost care while issuing weather news to the general masses so that the same was easily understood.

Deka, in his speech, emphasized that media had a greater role in disseminating weather information to the masses. Prof Dulal Goswami stressed the need for mediapersons for verifying the weather information judiciously.

Later, in the technical session, lectures were organized for the house. Sunit Das, Scientist-D, delivered a lecture on �Available Tools for Weather Surveillance at R.M.C. Guwahati� while Dr. Sanjay O�Neill Shaw, Scientist-D, explained the �Terminologies used in Weather Forecasting.� K Gupta explained the �Uncertainties in Weather Forecasting especially in NER.�

Senior journalist Ajit Patowary of The Assam Tribune addressed the gathering on the topic �Communicating Weather Forecasting.� He urged the mediapersons to properly understand terminologies used in weather forecast and said that they should avoid sensitization of weather news. Later, the media-persons were shown different facilities available at the Regional Meteorological Centre.
