MEDC chairman quits, questions leadership

By Correspondent

SHILLONG, Oct 5 - Questioning Chief Minister Mukul Sangmas leadership and style of functioning, senior Congress legislator, Pynshngain N Syiem today quit the post of chairman of Meghalaya Economic Development Council (MEDC).

Under your leadership as the CM, I do not see any justification to continue as chairman of MEDC, Syiem, who is also the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) chief, said in his resignation letter. While announcing his resignation, Syiem said, he would not cooperate with such leadership, who failed to carry along the sentiment and view of members of Congress Legislature Party and MUA-II Government.

Syiem is piqued at Sangma after the Assembly passed the Bill on Prevention of Disqualification (Members of the Legislative Assembly of Meghalaya) Bill, 2015 that disallows legislators to hold dual posts. Syiem was directly affected by the Bill as he is also a Member of the District Council.

On the controversial Bill, he alleged, it was passed with a malafide intention to target him.
