Medal-winning State archers feted

GUWAHATI, May 9 � Assam Archery Association today accorded a warm felicitation to the medal winning archers in the 19th Senior National Archery Championship (Indian Round) held at Bhopal from March 26 to 28.

The felicitation function was held at the SAI city centre complex here. Assam did a laudable job in the meet becoming the best team. Kamini Boro was the star of the event with one gold and two silver medals.

Kamini won gold medals in 50 metres and mixed doubles, with Baleswar Ram with while her silver medals came in 30 metres. Suman Devi (silver in 50 metres), Anima Basumatary (bronze in 50 metres) and Pallabi Das (bronze in 30 metres) were the other medal winners in the championship.

Certificates to the medal winners in the Jharkhand National Games were also distributed in the same function.

Attending the function as chief guest, top Assam Police Officer Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta said that the State Police Department will implement a sports policy soon for the cops so that they can excell in their respective sporting events. He further revealed that they are emphasising on sporting events like football, volleyball, archery, boxing, athletics, etc., along with adventure sports.

State archery body president Jayanta Boro and SAI city centre director in-charge Subhash Basumatary also spoke on the occasion. They hoped with sincere effort, Assam archers will be able to bring more laurals to the State.
