By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 28 In a novel endeavour with the multiple objectives of breaking away from the urban chaos, reducing pollution, and boosting ones fitness, a motley group of 70-odd people comprising children, youth and the elderly participated in a bicycle rally from Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra to the Veterinary College playground, Khanapara.

The broader intent behind the campaign organized under the aegis of Kalakshetra Good Morning Team, is to popularize bicycling as a habit among the masses.

The rally started at 6 am from the main gate of the Kalakshetra and culminated in the Veterinary College playground. The riders carried placards with written messages on the benefits of cycling. A meeting followed where several speakers spoke on the multiple positives of cycling.

Bicycling is gaining a lot of popularity across the world in view of the numerous benefits it provides. It can keep environmental pollution in check besides lessening the vehicular burden on roads, thereby keeping them free from congestion. In addition, cycling ensures immense health benefits to the cyclist, Tikendrajit Saikia of the Good Morning Team, said.

Saikia added that the campaign would call upon every individual of the city to participate in bicycle rallies and develop cycling as a habit.

Todays endeavour is the first step towards a new beginning. We urge every Guwahatian to ride bicycles within the radius of at least one km as frequently as possible, preferably every day. This can do wonders in reducing pollution besides keeping everyone fit and healthy, Mukunda Madhab Puzari, another member of the team, said.
