Massive protests against Citizenship Act in Dimoria region

JORABAT, Dec 13 - As part of the protest against the contentious Citizenship Act (CA), various areas in Dimoria region witnessed intensified protests with thousands of protesters resorting to various activities demanding scrapping of the Act.

The Dimoria regional unit of Amri-Karbi Students� Union today took out a massive rally in which over two thousand protesters including local public took part. The rally started from Phong-Ari area at Samata, took a U-turn at Sonapur College gate and blocked the National Highway-37 at Sonapur for hours.

Another huge rally was taken out at Jorabat in protest against the new Act. The protesters rallied for about 5 kilometres with anti-government slogans.

Later in the afternoon, in another such protest, a large number of residents of Dimoria region took to the street and blocked NH-37 in Tetelia area. The irate protesters burned tyres and bamboos and shouted slogans like �Himanta Biswa Sarma Hai Hai�, �BJP Go Back�, �BJP Murdabad�, �We won�t accept Bangladeshis� and �Joi Aai Axom�.

Acting heavily on the protesters blocking the highway at Tetelia, police lathi-charged them, dispersed the massive gathering and cleared the highway for smooth flow of traffic.

It may be mentioned that the Amri-Karbi Students� Union has called a 24-hour Dimoria bandh on December 16 in protest against the CA and urged the locals to join the protest in the interest of the State.

Moreover, the Dimoria regional unit of All Assam Students� Union too is all set to stage a special protest �Ganabikhov� against the CA in Dimoria region on Saturday.
