By CORRESPONDENT

ITANAGAR, Jan 18 - About a dozen barrack-type houses were reduced to ashes in a massive fire at the heart of Arunachal State capital, Itanagar today, rendering more than 40 families homeless, according to police.

The fire that broke out around 2.30 pm at Romi Colony near Radio Colony here completely devoured the kutcha houses along with household properties. There was, however, no report of any human casualty, informed police.

The fire which is believed to have started from a makeshift kitchen of one of the houses engulfed the area within no time. Bursting LPG cylinders further aggravated the situation with fire quickly spreading in the thickly populated area.

Fire services could not make it to the spot due to narrow pathways. The extent of property losses is being assessed.
