BISWANATH CHARIALI, March 15 � The groom�s age is 75 and his bride is in her 60s. A mass wedding that took place at the Barnamghar of Pabhoi, some 10 km from here, on March 11, drew everyone�s attention. The groom, Lakshmiram Borah and his bride, Dalimi Borah have, already three children along with a number of grandchildren.
The wedding was aimed at bestowing social recognition to those who had started their married lives without any formal rituals. As many as 11 couples �tied the knot� in the mass wedding.
Prior to this, they were brought to Pabhoi Bornamghar accompanied by the beats of Dhol-khol after being bathed with Mah-haladhi. Hundreds of people thronged the Bornamghar to witness the unique wedding and the whole area reverberated with Biyanam and Uruli.
The other pairs who got married were Manmohan Saikia � Kabita Saikia, Bipul Borah � Gitanjali Borah, Tilak Hazarika�Binita Baruah, Dharmeswar Kataki � Puspanjali Kataki, Jogen Das � Nijara Das, Son Mazumdar, Champa Mazumdar, Khagen Borah� Rani Borah and Jiten Hazarika� Junu Hazarika.
