Mass rally from Doyang to Guwahati

JORHAT, March 3 � The district secretary of the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS), Bitopan Duara has been sent to judicial custody by the court of chief judicial magistrate here after he was arrested by police at Teok near here on Monday.

Duara was injured in a clash with the police while he along with several other KMSS members protested on the National Highway 37 in the area on Sunday demanding immediate unconditional release of their leader Akhil Gogoi.

On Monday, more than 100 kmss members were detained by the police in Jorhat, Golaghat and Sivasagar districts after they took out a jail bhoro rally. They were released on bail in the evening.

However, over 100 workers of the Doyang Mukti Sangram Samiti (the founding unit of the KMSS in Golaghat district�s Doyang area) have taken out a mass rally on foot from their native area to Guwahati on Monday morning and they have stopped for the night at Furkating before their onward journey.

�We will continue walking until Akhil Gogoi is released. The government must feel the pulse of the deprived and oppressed people,� said Prasanta Chutia, president of the Doyang Mukti Sangram Samiti.
