The BS6-compliant Maruti Alto in petrol version was launched earlier this year, complying the new safety and crash test norms. Now, the Alto is available in CNG version too. Yes, Maruti has offered the CNG option for the mid-spec LXi and LXi (O) variants of the new Alto at a price hike of Rs.60,000 over the respective petrol variants.
The new Alto CNG does not get any cosmetic and mechanical changes. It features the same 796cc three-cylinder motor that does duty in the petrol-powered Alto variants. The engine churns out 48bhp power and 69Nm of peak torque on the Alto Petrol and a slightly lower 41bhp and 60Nm on the CNG. Power to the wheels gets transmitted via a 5-speed Manual gearbox.
In terms of equipment, the CNG-powered Alto variants get all the standard and safety features of the petrol model including the power steering, air conditioner, air bags, power windows at the front, child safety locks on the rear and so on.
Maruti has priced the 2019 Alto LXi CNG at Rs.4.11 lakhs and LXi (O) CNG at Rs.4.14 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). The 2019 Maruti Alto will continue to take on the likes of the Renault Kwid and Datsun redi-GO.
