Martyrs kin oppose decision on migrants

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Oct 12 - The coordination committee of family members of the martyrs of the Assam Agitation today strongly criticised the Government of India for its move to provide shelter to foreigners who came to Assam after March 25, 1971 and asserted that they would never allow the Government to undermine the Assam Accord and the sacrifices of the martyrs.

In a release here, the committee lamented that the main clauses of the Assam Accord were not implemented even after 30 years of signing of the Assam Accord. During the election campaigns, Narendra Modi had promised to drive out foreigners from Assam but after coming to power, he did a complete U-turn and is now trying to give shelter to foreigners in the State, the committee alleged.

If the Governments decision is implemented, the indigenous people of Assam would become minorities in their own land, the committee said.
