Marisha, Madhurjya emerge champs

GUWAHATI, May 1 � Marisha Dutta and Madhurjya Dutta bagged the girls� U-18 and boys� U-18 titles respectively in the All Assam Sub Junior and Junior Ranking Tennis Championship.

The six-day tournament, organised by the NF Railway Sports Association, came to an end at the NFRSA Tennis Academy courts, Nambari, Maligaon today.

In the U-18 girls title clash, Marisha earned a deserving victory against Rijuana Begum 6-2, 7-5 while in boys� category, Madhurjya downed Sushanta Mohanty by a comprehensive margin of 6-2, 6-3.

The boys� U-16 title went to Kitartha Hazarika who defeated Sahidul Islam 6-3, 1-6, 6-0. But Kitartha went down to Sahidul 0-6, 4-4 in the boys� U-14 final.

Priyana Kalita clinched the girls� U-14 crown with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 victory against Suranjeeta Saikia.

Hrishikesh Bhuyan rallied to beat Ronit Bora in the boys� U-12 summit clash 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.

In the closing function, NF Railway General Manager Keshav Chandra was present as chief guest. He hailed the youngsters for performing superbly in the tournament. Chandra also thanked the guardians for their support in conducting the meet successfully. Renu Chandra, president of the NF Railway Women�s Welfare Organisation along with NFR top officials were also present on the occasion. Altogether 146 players from various places of the State took part in the tournament.
