Many people attend Barak scribe�s last journey

SILCHAR, May 28 - The last rites of journalist Pijush Kanti Das (54) were performed at a crematorium here in the presence of his family members, colleagues and friends.

Das, a noted journalist working for a Guwahati-based satellite television channel, passed away at a hospital in the capital city on Wednesday after suffering from kidney ailments and blood cancer, sources in his family informed.

He is survived by his mother, wife, daughter, brothers and sisters.

He was popular among his colleagues in the Barak Valley and across the State for his incisive presentation of incidents. He worked for a number of leading newspapers and television channels of the region and across the country as well. He was also associated with a host of associations working for environment safety. The funeral procession which started from Das�s ancestral residence at Rajyeshwarpur in Katigorah was attended by a large gathering. Deputy Speaker Aminul Haque Laskar, DIG (Southern Range) Dilip Kumar Dey, Silchar MP Dr Rajdeep Roy, Silchar MLA Dilip Kumar Paul, among others, paid their last respects to the departed scribe.
