Many areas in Silchar flooded

By Correspondent

SILCHAR, May 21 - Even as the sky has become partially clear and rain has stopped since Wednesday evening, there was no significant decline in the water level of Barak river. Many areas of the town such as Ghaniwala, greater Malugram and Itkhola have been inundated since Thursday night.

According to reports, because of the leakage in the sluice gates, water has entered into many homes and shops in these areas. On the other hand, vast areas of Rongpur Part I, Nutun Dayapur, Badripar Bagpur and Niyaergram are also flooded.

Meanwhile, according to officials at the Department of Water Resources, the water level of Barak river is receding by 1 cm per hour and if there is no fresh downpour, it is expected to recede at a rapid pace.
