Manipur welcomes Myanmar students

IMPHAL, June 2 � Besides promoting medical tourism, Manipur Government is ready to welcome students from neighbouring countries particularly from Myanmar.

Manipur Education Minister Moirangthem Okendro said this while speaking on the occasion of the 20th annual prize distribution function of Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy Hall here recently.

During his visit to Myanmar, State Chief Minister O Ibobi had invited Myanmar students to come to Manipur for higher studies.

Minister Okendro also informed that the government is trying to upgrade the schools in the border areas. Expressing the financial constraints of the Education department, the Minister requested the MLAs to share 50 per cent of the local area fund for the development of the school infrastructure in their respective Assembly constituencies.

He further informed that the Education department will frame a transfer policy very soon to ensure rationalisation of posting of teachers in hill and valley districts.

School Education Director H Dileep felt that it will take time to bring changes in the education system in the State. Education is just like software in the computer which needs to be handled very carefully, he said.

World No Tobacco Day: With the theme �Ban tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship�, Manipur yesterday observed the World No Tobacco Day. Manipur Voluntary Health Association (MVHA) also observed the Day with Joint Director Health Services Dr S Manikanta and State Nodal Officer Dr K Komolini attended the function.
