IMPHAL, July 10 - Manipur Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Letpao Haokip on Wednesday congratulated former world champion Saikhom Mirabai Chanu for winning the gold medal in the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship at Apia, Samoa.
Mirabai created world record by lifting 191kg.
�I convey my heartiest congratulations for winning gold medal to Saikhom Mirabai Chanu in the senior women�s 49kg category,� said Letpao. �I also congratulate Sorolhaibam Bindyarani Devi and Ch Rishikanta who won gold medals in their respective categories.�
The Indian contingent won 13 medals that included eight gold, three silver and two bronze medals in senior, junior and youth categories.
Meanwhile, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh congratulated Maisnam Meiraba Luwang for clinching the title in the U-19 singles category at the White Night Russian Junior International Tournament at St. Petersburg, Russia on Sunday.
