IMPHAL, July 22 The flash flood caused by the unpredicted rain has hit the low-lying areas of Manipur valley area mostly paddy fields and fish farms under Mayang Imphal, Kumbi, Andro and Keishamthong Assembly constituencies. The flash flood has also caused scarcity of drinking water in the affected areas.

Standing paddy crops ready for harvest in about 3,000 hectares have been destroyed by the flood at Poirompat and Khuman Loukon in Andro Assembly constituency in Imphal East district.

More than 1,000 hectares of paddy fields, around 2,000 fish farms and many villages under Mayang Imphal Assembly constituency were also submerged by the overflow of Waisel Maril river.

The public have sought help and cooperation from the authorities. Dysentery has broken out in some areas due to lack of safe drinking water and proper sanitation.

The overflow of Chakpi river has also severely affected more than 50 hectares of paddy fields under Ethai Wapokpi area under Kumbi Assembly constituency in Bishnupur district.
