Manipur ultras call 40-hour general strike

IMPHAL, March 9 � The Manipur People�s Liberation Front (MPLF), an umbrella organisation of Manipur-based insurgents groups � Revolutionary People�s Front, United National Liberation Front and People�s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak � has called a 40-hour �general strike� from March 9 midnight to boycott President Pratibha Devisingh Patil�s maiden visit to the State on March 10.

In an email statement to the local dailies, MPLF stated: �the visit is targeted to fool the world that India is taking care of Manipur and taking up developmental and welfare works ��

Restrictions: Meanwhile, in view of the Presidential visit, the State has announced restrictions on movement of vehicles on two specific routes.

Restriction of vehicles from the airport to Raj Bhavan Road would start at 1.20 pm tomorrow till the arrival of the VVIP at Raj Bhavan. On March 11 the restriction will be from 9.35 am till the VVIP arrives at IT Park and from 10.35 am between IT Park, Mantripukhri to airport.
