Manipur to restore public transport system

IMPHAL, April 3 - Manipur Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh chaired a State Cabinet meeting on Monday which decided to restore public transport system in the State.

Detailed modalities of restoration of public transport system shall be deliberated in the next Cabinet meeting. The State Cabinet also resolved to discontinue re-engagement of retired employees except in some technical posts and positions which do not have deserving/eligible junior officers/officials, who can be elevated for the time being.

The Cabinet also gave its nod to re-designation and upgradation of the post of Assistant Liaison Officer of Manipur Bhawan, New Delhi. The Cabinet further approved to depute a Deputy Resident Commissioner (DRC) each to all Manipur Bhawans.

The Cabinet also decided to operationalise Manipur Skill Development Mission under Labour and Employment Department.

Earlier, the Chief Minister in a meeting with members of Manipur Hill Journalists� Union (MHJU) said his approach will be to regain the lost trust among people of different communities living in the State. �The media has to play a great role in bringing together all the communities�, he added.

Regarding the demands of MHJU, the CM instructed the PWD Chief Engineer to take up the renovation work of the Press Club at Churachandpur. He also agreed to allot land to establish a Press Club of the Union at Imphal.
