Manipur secondary board chief shot

IMPHAL, Jan 12 � Chairman of Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BSEM) Dr Naorem Kunjabihari, 60 was shot dead inside his Babupara office room located in the high security zone in Imphal on Tuesday.

However, the family members came to know of the incident only after reaching the RIMS hospital in the evening even though the incident took place at around 3.30 yesterday afternoon, sources said.

Two bullets had hit the chairman. One in his right chest and another in his right arm.

The reason behind the killing is yet to be ascertained as no individual or any underground organization has claimed responsibility for the killing. But Police has registered a case in connection with the killing and investigation is on. Meanwhile, a group of residents of Kakwa Naorem Leikai in Imphal west district, the native village of the chairman condemning the killing, attacked the BSEM office in Imphal with stones while another group resorted to blockade of Naorem Leikai section of the Indo-Myanmar route today.
