Manipur Science Meet concludes

IMPHAL, May 15 � Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh today said that science meet every year would help in supporting innovation system in the State.

�Organising such science meet every year in our state will be a measure of supporting innovation system,� said Ibobi while addressing the closing function of the Manipur Science and Technology Council (Mastec) sponsored five-day Science Meet under the theme �Clean Energy Options & Nuclear Safety� here today. �Mastec has taken up some innovative technologies in Manipur. It is also supporting local innovators in the area of protecting their intellectual properties�, he added.

Stating that the people have been facing new challenges like scarcity of resources, diseases and food security, etc, he said in all these areas, our success will depend critically on the quality of our institutions of science and technology.

�Mastec should have a strong outward orientation for creating a platform for science popularisation, technology transfer and to encourage innovators in the State,� he said. �It may require stepping up alliance that will expose our young students in other parts of India and abroad and enhance their competitiveness.�

Manipur�s Science and Technlogy Minister Francis Ngajokpa, Director Mastec Th Surendranath also spoke on the occasion.

Later, the Chief Minister along with Principal Secretary (Science and Technology) LP Golmei distributed prizes to the winning students of the science meet at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Hapta Kangjeibung here. Mega Manipur School Yaralpat in Imphal East was given the champion of science education award 2012 while Maria Montessori Senior Secondary School Koirengei also in Imphal East bagged leader of Science education award 2012.

State�s new Education Minister Moirangthem Oken inaugurated the Meet on May 11. Students from 20 schools are participating in the Meet wherein science models, book stalls, computer stalls and Handloom and Handicrafts stalls participated. Mastec has been organising the Science Meet annually since 1997.
