Manipur poll official succumbs to injuries

IMPHAL, March 8 - A polling official injured in bomb attack in Manipur on Tuesday, succumbed to the injuries today, sources said.

Three persons including one polling official and two Assam Rifles personnel were reported injury in the bomb attacks in Kamjong district yesterday afternoon. The injured persons were taken to the army hospital at Leimakhong.

Expressing deep condolences, Chief Electoral Officer Vivek Kumar Dewangan said, �An ex-gratia of Rs 20 lakh is issued through the DC, Ukhrul to be released to next of kin of the deceased.�

In an unrelated post poll incident, three two wheelers parked inside the compound of former Congress Minister and National People�s Party candidate Phungzathang Tonsing�s house in Churachandpur was reportedly torched by a mob on Tuesday evening.

Meanwhile, the district authorities have taken up security measures to ensure smooth, free and fair conduct of re-poll in 34 polling stations, including 12 in Saikul, 6 in Thanlon, 5 each in Andro and Henglep, 3 in Saitu, one each in Saikot Uripok and Singhat.
