Manipur outfit outshine Guwahati FC

By SPORTS REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Nov 28: North East Re-Organisation Cultural Association (NEROCA) Football Club of Imphal humbled host Guwahati FC 2-0 in the 2nd Division I League football championship at the NF Railway Stadium Maligaon today.

The visiting team distinctly dominated the proceeding from the word go with better individual techniques and team tactics. They virtually outplayed the Guwahati FC in all departments and went 2-0 ahead at the break.

The host team tried to stage a comeback in the second session but due to poor finishing they could not capitalise the scoring opportunities.

Skipper Durga Boro, who was off colourd today, spoilt the easiest opportunity in the 88th minute when he failed to deflect the ball into the NEROCA goal off a square pass from Somide Adelaja. Earlier in the 68th minute Adelaja failed to shoot home from inside the box.

NEROCAs foreign player OI Joseph opened the account in the 30th minute anticipating a measured through from Th Johnson Singh. It was a good move down the right flank between Joseph and Johnson and finally Joseph beat the opponent goalkeeper Suvam Sen at the near post with a powerpacked drive.

The visiting team doubled the lead in the 40th minute converting a spot kick taken by Y Chingkhei. Joseph was brought down by Suvam inside the box and referee Pratik Mondal rightly awarded the penalty to the Manipur team.

The visitors lorded the middle third of the pitch as Imran Khan, Ch Kishan and Chingkhei kept the midfield under their control. They fed their frontliners quite frequently but the strikers failed to increase the margin.

The Guwahati FC players have to improve their sharpness at the front as most of their moves were easily foiled by the opponent defenders.

With todays win NEROCA increased their point tally to four from two outings while Guwahati FC has three from as many matches.

In the next match Guwahati FC will play against Gangtok Himalayan SC on December 12.
