Manipur observes Int�l Day against drug abuse

IMPHAL, June 26 � A day-long workshop was held in connection with the International Day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking here today. Imphal-based NGO Social Awareness Service Organisation (SASO) organised the workshop at Manipur Press Club here as part of the global campaign on �Support Don�t Punish�.

The workshop has recommended integration of rehabilitation of drug users and treatment in the State Health Policy besides asking the Department of Social Welfare to present the draft Health Policy.

Later, a discussion on importance of social issues, roles to be played by different government departments such as Social Welfare, Health, Youth Affairs, etc., and NGO involvement in decision making marked the observation.

The State Government also officially observed the International Day in Imphal where Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai took part.

MLAs N Biren and RK Anand jointly flagged off a rally in connection with the observance of the International Day at Palace Gate here. The Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam attended the function organised by All Manipur Anti-Drug Association.

Women Action for Development and Human Rights Initiative jointly observed the International Day in support of victims of torture at Manipur Press Club here today.
