Manipur National Games squad flagged off

IMPHAL, Jan 25 � The first phase team of the 405 strong Manipur contingent for the upcoming 35th National Games to be held in Kerala has been formally flagged off at the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex in Imphal on Saturday.

Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh flagged off the Deputy Chef De Mission GA Sanatomba Sharma and K Jayananda Sharma led Manipur contingent. The president of Manipur Olympic Association (MOA) Irengbam Hemochandra Singh who is also the Public Health Engineering Minister and Parliamentary Secretary (Youth affairs, Sports and Tourism) Mairembam Prithviraj also attended the flagging off ceremony.

The first phase team comprises of around 205 participants including 46 of aquatics, 33 rowers, 29 archers, 25 footballers (women), 15 gymnasts, 13 wrestlers, 12 each of lawn bowl and shooting, 9 weightlifters, 8 squash players and 3 of yatching have left Imphal by road this morning to catch the train from the nearest railway station. The remaining participants are expected to start moving in phase wise manner. Manipur bagged 48 gold medals in the last National Games and stood second.
