Manipur MLA passes away

IMPHAL, Dec 5 � Dr Heikham Borajao, MLA of Communist Party of India, who represented the Sekmai Assembly constituency under Imphal West district breathed his last following a heart attack at his official residence here yesterday.

Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh visited the MLA�s official quarter and paid floral tributes to the departed soul.

After the official condolence service at the State Assembly complex, CPI workers paid tributes to the departed leader at their party office. Later, his body was taken to his native Khurkhul Mamang Leikai village, around 30 kms north of here for the traditional burial ceremony.

Borajao, a doctor by profession and Vice-President of All Manipur Scheduled Caste Association, was elected for the first time in 2007 as a CPI candidate. He was 62 and is survived by his wife, three sons and two daughters.

Incidentally, the ninth Manipur Assembly is marked by deaths of seven sitting MLAs including a father E Kunjeswar and his son E Suraj besides Th Navakumar, M Manindra, former Speaker Dr Sapam Buddhichandra, and Wungnaoshang Keishing.
