Manipur milk producers� body sets demands

IMPHAL, Jan 1 � The Manipur Milk Producers� Co-operative Union has demanded early appointment of a managing director (MD) of the Manipur Milk Cooperative Union Limited urged extension of the MoU which was signed between the Veterinary Department and Manipur Milk Cooperative Union Limited.

In a press conference recently, at Manipur Press Club here Dr I Ibotombi, secretary of the Trongloabi Tera Khongsangbi Co-op Society said most of the fund and loan for the farmers given by the Central government and other farmers� programmes are likely to remain unutilized as there is no managing director of the Union.

There will be no development in the State as far as White Revolution is concerned if the deadlock on the managing director issue continues.

He further said if the government fails to listen to the problem of the farmers� union then the matter will be taken to the Prime Minister�s level. The Manipur Milk Cooperative Union Limited is running without an MD since November 5 last. The fund for the farmers from November 1 to November 19 has remained pending.

He also said that the Union held a general body meeting on Tuesday and resolved to inform the department and board to amend the by-law for the appointment of MD of the boards. He said as many as 248 unit members and 155 unit members of the societies were present in the general body meeting. The MoU between the Veterinary Department and Union should be extended before it expires on April 14, 2015, he said. He also demanded extension of the MoU in the interest of the farmers. The press conference was attended by members of the other cooperative societies also.
