Manipur, Maharashtra lifters win team titles

GUWAHATI, Jan 23 � Manipur (U-17) and Maharashtra (U-19) won the team titles in the 59th National School Games Weightlifting Championship for girls U-17 and U-19 which concluded at the Bhogeswari Phukanani Indoor Stadium here today.

In the U-17 category Punjab came second and Maharashtra third while host Assam had to be satisfied with the fourth position.

But the Assam girls came third in the U-19 group after Maharashtra and Punjab. Reema Kumari of Punjab was adjudged best lifter in the U-17 category while in the U-19 group KM Pooja Gupta of Uttar Pradesh won the best lifter�s crown.

The three-day championship was organised by the Directorate of Sports, Assam with the technical support from Weightlifting Federation of India.

(69kg) 1st- Seram Nirupama Devi (Manipur), 2nd-D Sitamahalaxmi (Andra Pradesh), 3rd-Dharshini T (Tamil Nadu). (Above 69kg) 1st-Asemtimina Devi (Manipur), 2nd-Ashika Bhoir (Maharastra), 3rd-KM Kamini Rani (Uttar Pradesh)
