Manipur Left parties join stir against scrapping of Article 370

By Newmai News

IMPHAL, Aug 7 - Left parties in Manipur joined the nationwide protest today against the scrapping of Article 370 and 35A of the Indian Constitution and reorganising the State of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories.

Leaders and members of the CPI, CPI (M), RSP and AIFB held a meeting at the Irawat Bhavan complex here to mark their protest.

Speaking at the protest meeting, CPI Manipur State Council secretary L Sotinkumar said that August 5 the day on which the BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre scrapped Article 370 of the Constitution would be remembered as a dark day in the history of the country. The CPI leader added: The Centres attitude has given us this strong apprehension that it will also start targeting the North Eastern States which are accorded special provisions under Article 371 of the Indian Constitution.

CPI national executive member Dr M Nara Singh said that the abrogation of Article 370 was nothing but strangulation of democracy and would only lead to further alienation of the people of the region.
