Manipur launches prog to support Sarita

IMPHAL, Jan 17 � The Manipur Olympic Association (MOA) and Editors� Guild Manipur (EGM) today launched the �Boxer L Sarita Support Group� to raise funds to meet the fine imposed by the International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA) on the boxing champion Boxer L Sarita Devi and her two coaches � Cuban coach BI Fernandez and A Lenin.

The amount of fine imposed by AIBA on Sarita and her coaches are Rs 2.4 lakh.

MOA president Irengbam Hemochandra Singh speaking to media here said that they are appealing to the sports lovers to graciously donate for the young boxer.

The donation can be made to EGM�s president A Mobi Singh, treasurer P Labango Mangang and secretary General Yumnam Rupachandra in Imphal.

Reacting to the move, said, �I am happy to hear this as I am proud of being a Manipuri as people here are extending support for my cause. I think such a step will not only help my preparation for the upcoming championships including the Rio Olympics but it will definitely encourage the upcoming sportspersons of the region.�
