IMPHAL, Jan 31: With the theme ‘Let the victory over polio continue with two drops of life’, the three-day statewide Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) was formally launched here today.
Adviser (Health and Family Welfare) Dr Sapam Ranjan, Director (Health) Dr K Rajo, Director (Family Welfare) Dr P Shyamsunder and State Mission Director of National Health Mission, Manipur, Dr N Shyamjai were present during the launching programme held at the Family Welfare office here.
The State has set a target to immunize 3,10,233 children below five years of age across the State during the three-day drive.
“To meet the target, we are utilising 720 supervisors and 14,400 health workers as vaccinators at 3,600 vaccination booths in the State,” said Dr Shyamsunder.
On taking up the immunization programme despite the country being officially declared polio-free in the year 2014, Dr Shyamsunder said that the step has been taken since a few neighbouring countries have not yet been certified as polio-free country.
The last case of polio in the country was reported from Howrah district of West Bengal.
