Manipur House Session from Feb 14

IMPHAL, Jan 31 - Manipur Governor Dr Najma Heptulla has summoned the 10th Session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly at 11 am on February 14, according to an Assembly notification.

The last Session of the House was adjourned sine die with the passage of the Manipur Goods and Services Tax (Second Amendment) Bill, 2019, on December 20 last year. The three-day Assembly Session had featured one obituary reference, 18 starred questions, nine unstarred questions, four call attention motions, laying down of two papers and a public interest discussion.

Meanwhile, the Hill Areas Committee (HAC), Manipur Legislative Assembly, has recommended a partyless system of governance for the ensuing autonomous district council (ADC) election.

The HAC adopted a resolution to this effect at a meeting held on January 16, according to a press release issued by HAC chairman T Thangzalam Haokip. The meeting had also recommended to the State Election Commission to hold the ADC election preferably in November when there are no rains, it added.

Protest rally: Protesting against atrocities and sexual violence perpetrated on women, a public rally was held in Imphal under the aegis of the Indigenous Women Forum Manipur on Friday.

The rally started from Konung Mamang and passed through the main roads in Imphal East district. It ended at the THAU Ground in Imphal West district, where a public meeting was held.

The rallyists recounted incidents of atrocities and violence against women, allegedly perpetrated by the Central security forces under the Armed Forces Special Powers Act in the State.
