Manipur COVID-19 tally reaches 5,725

IMPHAL, Aug 27 - A total of 140 new COVID-19 positive cases have been reported in the past 24 hours in Manipur, State Health Department sources said today.

The total death toll in the State due to COVID-19 and other comorbid health conditions is currently 25. The COVID-19 tally in the State has risen to 5,725.

�In the past 24 hours, 122 persons from the general population and 18 from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) were confirmed positive,� said D Kh Sasheekumar Mangang, Additional Director and spokesperson of the Manipur Health Department here in a press release. The new cases are from Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Ukhrul, Senapati, Kangpokpi, Churachandpur, Bishnupur and Chandel, the release added.

�Three persons out of the general population are returnees from other States, while the rest 119 are locals without any significant travel history. They are being shifted to COVID care facilities,� the release added.

In the past 24 hours, 128 persons were also discharged after recovery. The cumulative number of discharged cases now stands at 3,957. The number of active cases is 1,743. The recovery rate is 69.11 per cent, the release said.

As of Thursday, a total of 3,41,141 persons were screened at various entry points of the State, while 1,42,813 individuals were tested for COVID-19 at various testing centres in the State, official sources said.
