Manipur confirms three more positive cases

IMPHAL, May 26 - With the detection of three more COVID-19 patients, the total number of COVID-19 cases in Manipur has increased to 39. The total active cases stand at 35, State Health officials said.

Four patients had already been discharged from hospital earlier following their recovery.

Stating that three new positive cases are from Imphal West district, Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, Additional Deputy Director and spokesperson of the State Health Department, in a press release, said, �Last night, three persons (all adult males) were found COVID-19 positive among 323 individuals tested at the VRDL, RIMS.�

The release added that the samples of the individuals were collected on May 20.

Meanwhile, 1,103 stranded people of the State arrived from Hyderabad and Goa in two special trains today. Later, the passengers were transported to quarantine centres after necessary medical procedures.

With today�s count, 13 trains have arrived at Jiribam, Manipur�s only railway station, 220 km west of Imphal, after the Government arranged special trains in collaboration with the originating States and the Indian Railways since May 13.

On the other hand, after the resumption of domestic flights in the country from Monday, around 311 people who were stranded outside due to the nationwide lockdown, arrived at the Bir Tikendrajit International Airport here today, sources said. Soon after their arrival, they were taken to notified quarantine centres for further steps.

Till today, 6,233 persons have been tested for COVID-19 in Manipur, while 2,20,438 were screened at various entry points, according to official reports. Altogether 9,687 returnees have been staying at community quarantine and 3,026 at institutional quarantine. As many as 4,150 persons have already completed their quarantine period.

Lockdown violators detained: Manipur Police has detained 519 persons and seized 504 vehicles for violating lockdown norms in the State, a senior officer said.

They were fined a sum of Rs 70,750 on Tuesday, a press note issued by Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) L Kailun said.
