IMPHAL, April 21 - Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has said that the much-awaited helicopter service will be launched from May 15 this year.
The requisite funds for the service will be jointly borne by the Union Home Ministry and the State Government in the ratio of 75:25.
Addressing a function during his maiden visit to Pherzawl district bordering Mizoram on Friday, Singh said that helipads having necessary infrastructure for running passenger service would be developed at Thanlon, Parbung, Moreh, Tamenglong and Jiribam soon.
The Joint Secretary of the Union Civil Aviation Ministry, Usha Padhee, along with the Managing Director of Pawan Hans Ltd, BP Sharma, met the Chief Minister to discuss the matter on Thursday.
Singh said Padhee had informed him that the necessary procedure for opening the tender for helipad construction would be completed by the last week of May.
�Besides, another passenger helicopter service under the Central Government�s UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Naagrik) scheme will start operation within six months,� Singh said after inaugurating the 132/33 KV power sub-stations of Thanlon and Tipaimukh at Thanlon.
In his speech, Power Minister Th Biswajit said that the Central Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi had set a target to electrify all the villages of the country by 2019 through its ambitious schemes like Saubhagya and Ujala. �However, the State Government is trying to electrify all the villages of Manipur by this year end,� the minister added.
Forest and Environment Minister Th Shyamkumar, Manipur Tribal Development Corporation Chairman and Thanlon MLA Vungzagin Valte, Chief Secretary Dr J Suresh Babu, Commissioner (Power) M Lakshmikumar, Manipur State Power Company Ltd Managing Director N Sarat and other high-ranking officials of the State Government also attended the function.
