Manipur boy tops CBSE exam results

IMPHAL, May 30 � Mohammad Ismat, a student of Zenith Academy in Imphal West district has been declared the All India topper in the CBSE Class XII exam in Science stream, results of which were announced in New Delhi on Monday.

Ismat of Lilong Haoreibi Mayai Leikai village became the first student from North East to bag the top position in CBSE exam. Born to a retired primary school teacher Md Bashirur Rahman and late Shahidan Bibi, the jubilant topper said, �I am delighted to hear such a cherished dream ��.

The 20-year old said that the unrest in Manipur was a stumbling block in his studies on one hand and a stepping stone as it provided him a challenge. �I studied eight to 10 hours a day for my preparation�, he said adding he believed in the saying � �Never leave till tomorrow what you can do today.�

Ismat wants to graduate from St Stephen College in the national capital to become a physicist. Believer of the prophet Muhammad in developing a disciplined human, the Manipuri topper gave credit for his success to almighty God as he faced health (piles) problem for three months till December last year in the run up to the examination. �I also give credit to all who helped me, inspired me and enlightened me get such an achievement,� he said.

S Manaoton, founding secretary of Zenith Academy, who supported the student both educationally and financially, hoped that Ismat would do something good for the nation in future.

Ismat got 100 out of 100 in Mathematics, Chemistry, Home Science and Fine Arts, and 98 in English securing a total of 498 marks (99.6 per cent) out of total 500. He was among 497 Academy students of which 489 secured first division in the examination.
