IMPHAL, Dec 18 � Protesting the Manipur Government�s inaction, Joint Action Committee (JAC) against the brutal killing of Public Health Engineering department (PHE) water supply unit chowkidar Soram Ibomcha and his son Yaipu, has called a 24 hour State wide bandh from Monday midnight.
The father-son duo were found shot dead two days back at Yairpok area under Thoubal district after their abduction from the official quarter at Irilbung in Manipur�s Imphal East district on December 7. It is reported that the duo were abducted in connection with monetary demand on the department.
On Saturday, Kangleipak Communist Party (MTF) in an e-mailed statement to media here signed by its Chief Commander Kesho Meitei and Publicity Secretary in-charge Pamheiba has claimed responsibility for the killing.
Manihar Luwang, Convenor of the JAC speaking to the media persons this afternoon announced the decision to call the bandh in protest against the indifferent attitude of higher officials of the department including the Chief Engineer.
Volunteers of the JAC also burnt down the effigies of the Chief Engineer H Imomacha and and KCP(MTF) leader at Irilbung Bazaar this afternoon.
Gadkari visit: Hectic preparation are on for the BJP national president Nitin Gadkari�s maiden visit to Manipur on Monday. Imphal�s main routes were decorated with BJP flags. Gadkari will address a public meeting at the Bhagyachandra Open Air Theatre in Imphal East district. Later, he along with National Vice President Najma Heptulla and others will attend a day-long North East Convention of the party at Hotel Classic. He will return after addressing a press conference on Tuesday morning.
