Manipulation in selection of LPG distributors alleged

KALAIGAON, Aug 9 - Applicants who did not get LPG distributorship in Barbalisitha in Khoirabari block, Nonaipara TE in Nonaikhuti, and Majuli TE in Santipur of Udalguri district have alleged that the selection process was not foolproof against manipulation.

Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) had invited applications for 93 new LPG distributors in Assam, including six in Udalguri district. The three companies released the selection list on August 2.

However, those applicants who did not get dealership in Udalguri district have openly expressed displeasure over the selection procedure.

The Majuli TE was reserved for Scheduled Tribes, the Nonaipara TE was open for all and Barbalisitha was reserved for women candidates.

A lottery were drawn in Hojai town on August 2 by the companies for the selection of distributors.

The applicants who did not get dealership have alleged that the computerised lucky draws were conducted in a suspicious manner. According to them, precautions were not taken to prevent any type of malfunctioning of the computerised lucky draws.

They alleged that the companies never sent them any email or SMS inviting them to the lucky draw, due to which most of them could not it.

The also alleged that all the three selected candidates belonged to a particular location.

The candidates have now lodged complaints with the Udalguri Deputy Commissioner, deputy general manager, LPG Region, Kolkata; chief area manager, Indane Area Office, Guwahati; chief territory manager, BPCL, Guwahati, demanding re-selection of distributorship for the three locations in Udalguri district.
