AGARTALA, March 31 � Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and two of his cabinet colleagues, Industries Minister Jitendra Chowdhury and Transport Minister Manik Dey will hit the CPM campaign trail in Assam from April 2 next, party sources said here today.
Assam�s two-phased poll is scheduled on April 4 and 11. While CPM �poster boy� Manik Sarkar will address three to four election rallies at Rongia, Barpeta and Sorbok, Industries Minister will remain present in several rallies at Dispur, Bongaigoan, Jania and Sadakjshetri.
Chowdhury will stay in Assam till April 8 before heading for Assembly elections in Kerala and West Bengal. When contacted, Chowdhury said that he would highlight on regional problems and problems related to indigenous people.
Transport Minister will set up base at Cachar district of Assam to boost the party�s campaign for the ensuing election. In the last Assembly election too, Dey had campaigned there for the party.
Of course, Chief Minister will be the star campaigner for the party in Assembly elections in West Bengal and Kerala where CPM faces one of the toughest fights. As last ditch of attempt, the party leadership wants Manik Sarkar to campaign for the party contenders in two left ruled states.
West Bengal will have elections in six phases on April 18, 23, 27, May 3, 7 and 10, perhaps the longest ever in the state. Tamil Nadu and Kerala will go to polls on April 13. Chief Minister will kick off his party�s poll campaign in Assam on April 2 and will stay there till April 4. Sources claimed, Chief Minister will nail the opposition Congress on corruption issues like 2G Spectrum, Commonwealth Games (CWG) and Adarsh Housing Society. Nevertheless, he will focus on anti-people policies of the Congress led UPA government at the Centre. After wrapping up of the campaign in Assam, Chief Minister will move for West Bengal and Kerala for sweltering campaign.
