Mangaldai pays rich tributes to Hiru Da

MANGALDAI, July 6 � People from all sections of the society here paid rich tributes to Hiren Bhattacharjya, an eminent poet and lyricist, popularly known as �Hiru Da�, on his third death anniversary on Saturday.

On this occasion, a public function was organised by Spondon, a local non-government literary and cultural youth body at the auditorium of Darrang Zilla Sahitya Sabha. The day-long programme began with garlanding the portrait of Hiru Da and lighting the ceremonial lamp, which was formally initiated by Kunja Devi, a senior literary activist and a teacher in the presence of a sizeable section of followers of the distinguished poet.

This was followed by a programme on recitation by promising poets of the State, including Jayjit Deka, Prashanta Rabha, Angan Jyoti Hazarika and Jintu Gohain. In addition to the invited poets, both young and elderly local poets, such as Kunja Devi, Saswati Sarma, Barada Saikia, Mira Dutta Choudhury, Pankhi Kajal Kayastha, Nayana Goswami, Dwipendra Narayan Konwar and Ramen Raj, among others, recited poems in an effort to pay homage to Hiren Bhattacharjya, who was very popular among the common citizens for his pro-people attitude.

The function was anchored by young poet and college teacher Pranamika Sarma, was added flavour by rendering some popular songs of Hiru Da by a couple of young singers, including Tutu Hazarika and Antariksha Kalita. The function was inaugurated by Jibendra Mohan Deba Sarma, a prominent artiste.

The function was also addressed by journalist Mayukh Goswami and Madhurjya Mayur Saikia, president of Spondon, among others.
