Mangaldai gears up for Rongali Bihu

MANGALDAI, April 12 - With only a couple days left for Rongali Bihu, organisers of different Bihu celebrations of greater Mangaldai area have geared up their preparations to celebrate it in a befitting manner.

The Sadou Mangaldai Rongali Bihu celebration committee, on its 63rd year of celebration, will be organising a five-day programme at Gandhi Maidan in three phases � on April 15, 18, 23, 24 and 25 unlike the previous years.

The celebration will mark its beginning with the hoisting of the flag by MLA of Mangaldai Gurujyoti Das as well as the president of the organising committee at around 9 am on April 15. It will be followed by a cultural rally which will be flagged off by Darrang Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kr Barman.

In the evening of April 18, All Assam Drama contest will be held at the District Library auditorium. Distinguished cine artiste Kashmiri Saikia Barua will inaugurate the event.

The other three days of the celebration will feature many socio-cultural events, sports, literary programmes, felicitations and contest among students, including All Assam Mukoli Bihu, Bihu Kunwari, marathon race, cycling contest, cultural functions by local and guest artiste, including Kanika Bhattacharya and Priyanka Bharali, among others.

Among other Bihu organisers, this time Santipur Rongali Bihu Sanmilani is celebrating its 47th edition of Rongali Bihu from April 14 to 17 at the Santipur Sangha premises. On the opening day, along with other scheduled programmes, modern dance contest will be organised among children. The celebration will also feature many other programmes in the next three days Mukoli Bihu, like cultural evening, felicitation, interaction with the senior citizens, open session and Bihu Kunwori, Mou Kunwori, quiz, art contest etc.

Similarly, the 37th edition of Chapai Anchalik Rongali Bihu Sanmilan will be held at the Neharu Maidan Chapai Yuva Kalyan Kendra premises on April 15 and 16. The significance of the opening day of the two-day celebration will be presentation of a song titled �Sree Moi Asomir Sheetal Bukut�� by more than 500 artistes altogether.

On the other hand, Rongali Bihu will also be observed at Saikiapara, Santipara and Ward Number-1 with three-day programmes. Gyanodaya Library and Yuva Sangha of Saikiapara is organising its 41st Rongali Bihu celebration in two phases on April 15, 23 and 24 next.

Dakshin Mangaldai Anchalik Rongali Bihu Sanmilani will be celebrating its 24th Doul and Rongali Bihu festival at Santipara public field from April 14 to April 16 with various programmes.

On April 14 morning, Smita Rani Das, commissioner, Ward Number-1 will formally inaugurate the Doul festival where as Makhan Phookan, president of the Bihu organising committee, will hoist the flag on April 15 morning.
