Maneswar Basumatary accorded State funeral

GUWAHATI/JALUKBARI, Feb 16 - The mortal remains of slain CRPF jawan Maneswar Basumatary wrapped in Tricolour reached Guwahati this evening. He was accorded a State funeral at his village Kalbari near Tamulpur in Baksa district later this evening. The mortal remains were brought in a special IAF aircraft to the IAF Station at Borjhar where a brief wreath laying ceremony was organised to pay tribute to the soldier who was martyred in Thursday�s suicide attack in Jammu and Kashmir�s Pulwama district.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Transport Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, Guwahati MP Bijoya Chakraborty, former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, Chief Secretary Alok Kumar, DGP Kuladhar Saikia were among those dignitaries, besides senior officers from the defence and security forces, who paid their last respect to the soldier.

Later the mortal remains were taken to Basumatary�s hometown in a chopper. Chief Minister Sonowal and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma were among those who lent their shoulders while the body in the coffin was being taken to the chopper.

Basumatary is survived by his wife and two children.
