AIZAWL, Feb 26 - Union Minister of State for Roads, Transport & Highways Mansukh Mandaviya interacted with Mizoram Governor Lt Gen Nirbhay Sharma (Retd) at Raj Bhawan here on Thursday.
The Governor told him that the NE region would in the near future become an important centre for trade and hence good roads are necessary. Informing him that Mizoram is rich in medicinal plants, the Governor suggested that in order to export these not only within the country but all over the world, �herbal industry� may be set up in the State.
The Governor further told the Union MoS that road, waterway, and airway communication are also necessary to tap the wealth of Mizoram in trees and bamboos.
Mandaviya said that he liked the suggestions of the Governor and said that more �Jan Aushadhi Centres� shall be set up in Mizoram in addition to the existing two centres. Steps shall be taken to open 25 centres, he said.
He also told the Governor that the Central Government has allocated Rs 600 crore for construction and renovation of roads in Mizoram.
Later, Mandaviya also interacted with Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla and told the latter that Mizoram holds an important place for connecting with other parts of the country and with Myanmar and other neighbouring countries.
