JORHAT, Dec 10 - At a meeting here with the representatives of more than 50 tea gardens of the district today, the Jorhat administration has asked the tea garden managements to expedite the welfare works for the workers so that most of the remaining works can be completed within February 15, 2016.

As most of the tea gardens are yet to provide adequate healthcare services, residences, proper power supply to the households, the officials told the garden managements to take necessary initiatives soon for the welfare of the workers.

Out of the total 86 tea gardens of our district, representatives of 55 gardens attended the meeting today. The managements of the gardens were asked to expedite the welfare works with the help of the Government departments concerned as several works are yet to be done in this regard, said an Additional Deputy Commissioner of Jorhat.

He said that along with the Deputy Commissioner Solanki Vishal Vasant, officials of Education, Excise, Health, Power and Labour departments also attended the meeting.

As alcoholism is a cause of serious concern in several tea garden areas, excise officials were also told to take necessary measures to stop the sale and consumption of illicit liquor in the gardens of the district.
