SILCHAR, March 21 - Sensation prevailed in Karimganj after miscreants attacked one Mahatabur Rahman (42) and killed him in broad daylight on Monday.
According to police, the incident took place at 10:30 am when a group of miscreants with sharp weapons attacked Mahatabur inside a madrassa campus in Bhanga area under Karimganj district and hacked him to death with sharp weapons and immediately fled from the spot.
He was rushed to the Karimganj Civil hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. Police rushed to the spot and began investigating the case.
Sources said that Mahatabur Rahaman was a witness to the killing of Gazi Toufel and Naz.
On the other hand, irate locals put up a blockade on NH-6 at Bhanga in protest against the incident and demanding immediate arrest of the miscreants. A large number of police personnel were deployed in the area and after almost three hours, Karimganj SP PR Kar and his team were able to remove the mob from the area.
Meanwhile, police informed that a person named Islam Uddin, a resident of Bhanga has been arrested in connection with the incident.
