JORHAT, April 18 - The Jorhat District and Sessions Court Judge VK Chandak today awarded seven years rigorous imprisonment (RI) to Biju Doley of Majuli after finding him guilty of raping a minor.
The judge also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on Doley and stated that failure to deposit the amount will make him serve another three months rigorous imprisonment in jail.
Doley, a resident of a village under Jengraimukh Police Station, was convicted by the Court under Sections 376, 506 of the IPC and under Section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act) 2012.
He reportedly committed the crime on July 6, 2013 when the minor girl was working in the family�s paddy field. The convict had reportedly threatened the victim not to disclose the incident to any person.
The father of the victim had lodged an FIR at the police station after which the case was registered and investigation was carried out. Sixteen people appeared in the Court as witnesses during the trial.
