Mammoth anti-CAA rally held at Bokota Nemuguri

By Correspondent

SIVASAGAR, Feb 17 - Addressing a mammoth anti-CAA rally at Bokota Nemuguri Konwarting Field on Sunday, internationally acclaimed film director-producer Jahnu Baruah called upon all sections of Assamese people to stand united at this critical juncture so as to achieve a final victory against the anti-people Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019.

Baruah was hopeful that largescale participation of the womenfolk will bring in early success to the peoples movement.

Advocate Santanu Borthakur of Gauhati High Court, while attending the rally, said that Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Revenue and Education Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarmah are now scared of three words Jai, Aai, Asom which haunts them even in their sleep. They are in no way better than Laluk Sula Borphukan of the Ahom era, Borthakur added.

Addressing the meeting, nonagenarian Nomal Buragohain, president of Bokota Nagarik Samaj, said that the state and central governments are upto destroy the confident Assamese society which is evident as neither the centre nor the state has paid heed to the cries of the agitated people.

Advocate Arup Borbora of Gauhati High Court in his address said that the BJP leaders are now aware that their support base has corroded severely over the last few months and are therefore feeling very insecure even amidst their own people.

Assam, he said, will never give shelter to religious segregation and discrimination as propounded by CAA. Referring to Dr Himanta Biswa Sarmah and Sarbananda Sonowal, Borbora said that their days are now numbered in Dispur and added that Sarbananda Sonowal did not participate in the Assam Movement at all.

Ganashree Bora of Dibrugarh University said that todays ssamese girls will take part in all agitational programmes for Assam and the Assamese community while continuing their studies.

The meeting was also addressed by Kanak Gogoi, CPI politburo member, Pronay Hazarika, president of KASS district committee, Bidyut Saikia of Satra Mukti Sangram Samity and Debojit Dutta, president of AJYCPs Sivasagar district committee.
