Make Silchar a trading centre: Susmita

By Correspondent

SILCHAR, Nov 22 - With the opening the long awaited broad gauge passenger train for the people of Barak Valley, Silchar MP Susmita Dev said that the government must make efforts to make the second biggest urban sprawl a potent trading centre for the development of the region.

Susmita said that Union Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Sarbananda Sonowal sought votes for the BJP during the 2014 Assembly by-polls with the promise to make Silchar a smart city which did not happen. It is my message to the minister and his party, instead of promises and sloganeering, make efforts for Silchar to be trading centre, Susmita told reporters.

In the words of Susmita, regular arrival of goods trains will help boost the business in this part of the county which in turn helps in developing the socio-economic scenario. She said that the protests and strikes which were called in the recent past in the valley must be discouraged as such occurrences sends a wrong message to the traders and business communities across the country and will lessen the chances of them coming here.

Congratulating the Union Ministry of Railways and NF Railways crew for opening the passenger train for the people of Barak Valley, the local MP said that the Railways must introduce express trains like Rajdhani train between Silchar-New Delhi and similar trains between Silchar-Kolkata, Chennai and Bengaluru for better connectivity.
