Make Kalam a role model: Governor

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, March 5 - Governor Banwarilal Purohit has called upon the students to emulate the teachings of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam and make him their role model.

Purohit, while interacting with a group of 40 students from Mangaldoi Commerce College and Mangaldoi College at Raj Bhavan on Saturday, called upon the students to imbibe aptitudes like determination, dedication and discipline to make a mark in the society they belong to.

The group of students who visited Raj Bhavan was on an exposure tour under a scheme of the Parliamentary Affairs Department, spent some time with the Governor and interacted with him.

The Governor advised the students to set a goal and pursue it through hard work and perseverance. He also asked them to pursue their goal irrespective of their economic background and they should not think that only children of the rich people can achieve success.

In this context, he referred to the life of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri and former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam who hailed from a mediocre family but through their dedication, will power and strong determination reached the zenith of a successful life.

The Governor also pointed out that simplicity, sensibility and hard work of both Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri had made them great humanists. The Governor also advised the students to select good friends because success and failures are dependent on quality of friends one keeps.

Purohit also conveyed his best wishes to the students and also asked them to lead a simple life and be honest in their thoughts and actions.
