Majuli-Jorhat ferry service to resume from today

JORHAT, May 31 - The Majuli district administration has allowed plying of mechanised passenger ferries from June 1 between Majuli and Jorhat.

An order passed by Majuli Deputy Commissioner Bikram Kairi today stated that ferries carrying only 50 percent of the total seat capacity will be allowed to ply between Majuli-Jorhat and two and fro by observing all instructions under Covid-19 rules.

Wearing of masks by passengers and ferry crew members was compulsory, the order mentioned.

The ferry service, to be run by Inland Water Transport wing of the Transport department, will be only between Kamalabarighat (Majuli) and Nimatighat (Jorhat) and vice versa and between Afalamukhghat (Majuli) and Nimatighat and vice-versa.

On May 10, ferry service between Majuli-Jorhat and vice-versa, which was earlier resumed on May 5 after remaining suspended during two lockdown phases, was again suspended.
