Major reshuffle in police department

GUWAHATI, June 28 � Assam Government effected a major reshuffle in the police department transferring as many as nine senior officials including seven of the rank of Inspector General of Police(IGP).

Those transferred also include IGP (Law and Order) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta who has been transferred as IGP (Training and Armed Police). Incumbent IGP (TAP) Lungriading has been transferred as IGP (Border).

GP Singh would be the new IGP of the Central West Range while incumbent Pallab Kumar Bhattacharya has been transferred as IGP (Special Branch).

Southern Range IGP DN Hazarika has also been transferred as IGP (Special Operation Unit).

Jyotirmoy Chakrabarty would be the new IGP (Security), while incumbent SN Singh would be the new IGP of the State Fire Service Organisation.

Moreover, DIG (Southern Range) AYV Krishna has been transferred as DIG (Northern Range). Binod Kumar (Security) will be the new DIG of Southern Range.

A major reshuffle in the police department was on the cards, after the recent Dispur violence in which three persons, including a minor died in police firing.

Police had resorted to firing after a protest rally against eviction turned violent near Dispur area leading to loss of human lives and damage of public property.
